ABOUT THIS PILOT
A monthly view of research that matters to health protection
Key Journal Watch for Health Protection is a demonstration of a proposed monthly service for local, state and federal public health agencies. It highlights important research across respiratory, foodborne, vector-borne, sexually transmitted, vaccine-preventable and other priority health-protection topics.
Each month, a broad selection of high-impact journals are screened for relevance, with approximately 40–50 articles selected for summarisation. Summaries are drafted using AI and checked for accuracy by a public health professional. In this demonstration, summaries awaiting that check are clearly labelled.
Use the panel below to filter the collection by topic (Tag 1), disease (Tag 2) and publication date.
The summaries are written to work well in both text and audio formats. The sister pilot podcast CloseContact may be integrated into a future version of the service. The platform is modelled on the US CDC Chief Medical Officer’s Science Briefs. The CDC service required approximately eight full-time equivalent staff to maintain and ceased publication in December 2021; an example is preserved in the CDC COVID-19 Science Update archive.
